For the second time in approx 32 holidays over 8 years we didn’t take bikes and we survived! We missed them but it was also nice to do different things, experience a different type of holiday and not have to cart bikes around everywhere! Our summer holidays have been great, the first week we hung out in Marlo and visitors to go swimming with, riding, running, walking and exploring.
We then headed to central vic where we visited family, friends, had coffee catch ups, lunch catch ups and quality friends and family time! After that we headed over to the Wild West for a friends’ wedding. Up at 630am from Ballarat to drive to the airport, a flight over to Perth followed by an 8 hour drive south to Esperance. A very big day of travel but worth it, what a sensational part of the world. We spent a few days running, walking and swimming, exploring the superb beaches and Cape LE Grand National Park. We even stayed in an apartment which was very unusual as we normally camp but very nice , I could get used to this!!!
The wedding was gorgeous and fun and awesome!!! So good to catch up with friends! We then drove to Denmark, a cute little town and stayed with a friend from Marlo in a beautiful house. The area hadn’t had rain in forever and water tanks were dry, it then pelted down rain for 3 days. Always a drought breaker!! We visited Valley of the Giants and did the rooftop walk, so cool!!
We checked out Green Pool and Elephant Rocks and found a section of the Munda Biddi trail to walk on. Then drove to Pemberton and unfortunately it was too wet to ride the trails but it is on my ‘to go back’ to list! A national MTBA XC Round was being held that weekend and already there were riders in town, what an amazing thing it is to have great trails in your town!!! Back in the car to Margaret River and this is a funky little town, awesome food, awesome wine, awesome beer, awesome coffee, awesome trails!! We took our camping gear over but due to thunderstorms and massive downpours we stayed in a backpackers I had stayed in 8 years ago!
A few runs around the trails followed by afternoons at the wineries, breweries, coffeehouse, cereal and nut factory what an awesome few days!! Back in the car to drove to Busselton to walk the jetty, then to Bunbury for a swim and onto to Fremantle. We stayed in the old women’s prison which is now run by YHA, a great experience. Walked around Freo- checked out Little Creatures Brewery and the most awesome skatepark watching some rad dudes so awesome tricks I had only ever seen on Tony Hawke playstation games!!
Next morning walked around the city, what a fantastic place, went to the Fremantle markets and watched the Dockers train! Managed to get to the airport 8 minutes before our check in closed- phew!! Looking forward to heading over to ride the Munda Biddi trail and explore the wild west even more!!
